Pray for our troops!

This week end take some time and set it aside to pray for our troops. We are free because of the sacrifice they have made. There is no greater love on this earth than to lay down your life for another.

Prayer Vigil

Some churches or prayer groups organize a prayer vigil. It is a designated prayer time for a specific request. It is a list of members who will agree to continue prayer at a specific time and volunteer and sign up on a list of times. You may have a specific need stated for the prayer petitions and intercessions. Most vigils are for a specified time period, like 24 hours or a specified day. A sign up sheet that has around the clock times posted or it may have just daytime hours posted leaves a line beside a specific time you volunteer to pray for a specific time and you sign in at that time. The purpose of the vigil is to have a specific time of continued prayer by one intercessor at a time. That way you will have continued prayer for the length of time specified in the vigil. It is like a chain of intercessors taking turns in prayer to lift up a certain request to the throne room for hours at a time. It is a unified effort and allows continuous prayer for 24 hours, or for days at a time. I will provide an example of a prayer vigil sign up sheet so you can see how it works. Most organized vigils has shown to be successful.

Keep Strong in the Word!

One of the reasons to keep strong in the word is to have a successful prayer life. If the word of God is built up in our hearts we will receive answers to prayer. It is important to remain faithful to God's word.

Prayer Card

I like to keep many notes, scriptures and prayers on recipe cards. I am a big recipe card person. I have files of scriptures organized with different subjects. I also found this prayer card you may want to print and fill in. You can allow others to fill in the cards with requests or fill them in yourself and carry them in a pocket or purse or backpack to look at several times during the day. Remember to thank the Lord for answering the prayers listed on the card.

Casting Your Cares and worries on the Lord.

One thing to remember when you become a serious intercessor is that your faith is important. Fight the good fight of faith and protect your heart. Your faith is effected by the things you allow to influence your mind and heart. Scripture tells us that faith is built up by hearing and understanding the word pf God. Daily reflection and study of the bible is an asset to keeping your faith and your prayer life active and strong.
Another way to guard your mind and heart is to remember to cast all your cares on the Lord. It is easy to get caught up in trying so hard to help others that we forget that the battle belongs to the Lord. Many of the requests you receive for prayer will be a burden and can cause you to be weighed down. Intercession should be a blessing to yourself and to those you pray for, so it is important to pray earnestly and sincerely and then cast the answer and care of the prayer over on the Lord. You don't have to do the fighting and answering, just the praying. God is the greater one and He is greater than any problem you bring to Him, He will defeat the hindrances and carry our sorrows and griefs. When you sense a relief or when peace returns to your heart and mind you are done praying. Leave the rest to the Lord and thank Him for answering.
Also, remember we have all the help we could ask for. The Holy Spirit is our helper and comforter. Ask him to help you in your prayer life. Ask for his guidance and strength. He is always there with you and is there to be your helper.

How To Prepare a Prayer Journal

Today, I want to take some time to discuss developing a prayer journal. I believe it can be used as an effective guide for your prayer time, encourage you and build your faith as you record the answers you have received. I will be providing some printable pages below for you to copy and use if you choose too. You can purchase a prayer journal, make one yourself or print pages to put in a notebook or just use a regular notebook.  I chose several different examples to follow or print that you will find below. There are also many free printable prayer journal pages online if you would care to search for them. There were pages for men, children and specific pages with different appearances. The ones I have included below will be for anyone to use. If you are a scrapbooker, you may want to assemble your own special prayer journal.
Once you acquire or establish a prayer journal you can begin to build a stronger prayer life. I always recommend beginning prayer time with thanking God for the blessings you already have in your life, for prayers that have been answered, or just praising Him in hymns, songs or singing praises. The Lord inhabits the praises of our lips and this means He is present to hear your prayers. Then intercede for others, for countries, for this nation or anything else that the Holy Spirit may bring to your heart. Always pray for yourself and your future and your family. And offer thanksgiving for the answers to your prayers. Jesus thanked the Father for answering His prayers. It is also important to add at least one scripture to your prayer time daily. The bible builds our faith and we will need to fight the good fight of faith to have a strong prayer life. It may be a good idea to search for and record as many scriptures as you can find that pertain to prayer to build your faith in that area. It is also important to know the promises of God so you will be familiar with God's will so you are more confident in asking or praying for specific requests. Your bible may have a topical section that lists certain scriptures that pertain to different subjects or look at the index to find specific scriptures. Many times you can find a certain scripture by searching for it online. As you build your prayer journal you can reread your requests and see all the answers you have recorded at the time prayers were answered. A prayer journal can be a tremendous asset to your prayer life, i hope you consider it.

Happy, Happy, Happy!

One of the things to focus your prayers on is the happiness and joy in your family and home. The joy of the Lord brings strength. The old saying says a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down. Joy and happiness seem to make life easier during difficult times. And we must remember that joy is what the Holy Spirit brings into our lives.

Thursday, April 30, 2015

One of the most important and basic parts of building a prayer life is to establish a connection with the Lord. He cares so much for us He gave everything He had to give to be able to build that connection with us. He sent His Son to destroy anything that would stand between us. When we pray a simple prayer and ask Jesus to be a part of our lives it builds a connection with Him and that opens a door to be closer to Him in prayer. We build a friendship with Him in the same way we would with anyone else. We begin by talking to Him and spending time with Him.

Keller Christian Prayer Group, Keller, Texas

I am Shannon Montgomery and I would like to organize an online interdenominational prayer group here in Keller, Texas. Anyone is welcome to participate. I will be posting teachings on prayer and hopefully you will feel free to ask for prayers and will join in prayer for others requests. There are many needs in our nation that also require prayer. My heart often goes to prayer for the children in this nation. We also have great needs that pertain to our country such as an upcoming election and the violence we have been reading about in the news. Please feel free to respond in prayer. Our nation and community could see benefits when we join in prayer. The prayer of agreement is effective and brings tremendous results. Please answer God's call to prayer. You will receive blessings for your family and nation if you join in prayer with others. I will be asking you to join in commited prayers and prayer times. It is no accident that you have come upon this blog. God is touching your heart in intercession and prayer. There are special blessings in unity of prayer. You are welcome to join us even if you are not from Keller. Keller, Texas is the home of this prayer group. Thanks God Bless!
